EP 259: Brain Fog, Hormones and Protecting Against Alzheimer's Disease and Other Forms of Dementia with Dr Kavita Desai

Angela talks to Dr Kavita Desai - Women’s Health Specialist, Founder of Revivele & Author of Lady Parts: Putting Women’s Health Back Into Women’s Hands.

Description

Angela talks to Dr Kavita Desai - Women’s Health Specialist, Founder of Revivele & Author of Lady Parts: Putting Women’s Health Back Into Women’s Hands - about how to properly care for our brains, look after our cognitive health and prevent dementia, one of the most serious conditions affecting human health world-wide.

Key Takeaways

The World Health Organisation has reported that 55 million people globally now have dementia with Alzheimer's Disease being the most common form.
Women have been taking on a more prominent role in the care of the world, but with this has come a decline in the time we spend caring for ourselves. This is a rhetoric we need to change.
There can be changes in the brain in the run up to Alzheimers that form up to twenty years before main symptoms, meaning that we need to be prioritising our health much earlier that we tend to.
Now that DNA tests are so widely and commercially available, we can be more empowered in identifying potential issues in our future, giving us a greater sense of agency over our long term wellbeing.

Best Moments

'We don't prioritise ourselves, and we feel guilty if we do'

'Women seem to be disproportionately affected by dementia'

'We are at very significant health risks as we go through our perimenopausal years'

'I am a huge advocate of trying to prevent long term disease'
