Health Optimisation for Leadership Teams: Biohack Your Way Toward Success
Imagine a world where you had optimal energy… And where you could use this energy to build the most successful business and create a phenomenal life for yourself and others.
How would that feel? What would that look like for you? What would it take to make that happen?
The word “biohacking” might come to mind.
Depending on who you ask, the definition of “biohacking” varies. Generally, it means working with your unique biology to optimise health, longevity, and performance.
While there are multiple things you can do and try to achieve this, the S.H.I.F.T. protocol I have developed tackles your health from all angles, upgrading both your body and your mind. This means you can achieve high performance without fear of burnout, illness, and more.
In other words, you feel good, your productivity multiplies, and you achieve greater results, faster. But it all starts with looking after yourself. So, how can you take that first step? What exactly does S.H.I.F.T. mean?
Make the SHIFT Towards Optimal Health & Performance
As a leader in your business or company, you likely are responsible for making key decisions and managing teams of people. In turn, you likely play a major role in guiding the future of your company.
However, there is a growing problem facing many business leaders and owners. In a recent Indeed survey, 52% of people reported feeling burned out.
Burnout refers to the state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion due to ongoing or chronic stress. It might mean you struggle to keep up with external demands. And it might mean you struggle to cope emotionally and physically.
From here, your health can plummet.
People often argue that they don’t have time for self care. But that’s usually because they haven’t yet experienced what it’s like to be forced to make time for disease care and the impact that can have on their business, their income and their relationships
S.H.I.F.T. is all about mastering the basics and optimising for success. It’s about stacking habits and hacks that work for you, your body, and your life so that you can take back your time and fill it with an abundant amount of healt, wealth and happiness.
Digging Deeper: What is S.H.I.F.T.?
S.H.I.F.T. is a framework that helps you tackle your health from a holistic perspective. S.H.I.F.T. is optimising your:
- Sleep
- Hormones
- Insights
- Fuel
- Training
I’ve used this exact framework to help guide countless clients toward success and help them level up when it comes to their business and productivity.
So, let’s examine these different categories on a deeper level. Where can you make improvements?
1. SLEEP
In a society that emphasizes doing more, sleep has fallen to the curbside. We go to bed later and later, and we wake up earlier and earlier — all in an attempt to cram more into our busy days.
But what if the secret wasn’t trying to squeeze more into your day but rather, trying to get more out of each and every moment? Nailing down your sleep can help you do this. In fact, you might find you waste less time and are more productive when you prioritise your sleep.
Some quick things you can do here include:
- Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day to optimise your circadian rhythm
- Obtaining 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night
- Practicing optimal sleep hygiene (limiting blue light before bed, sleeping in a quiet and cool room etc.)
- Assessing the comfort of your mattress and pillow
Don’t worry you can still watch Netflix if that’s your thing, just pop on a pair of blue light blocking glasses if it’s within 2-3 hours of bedtime! It may take some experimentation, but finding your balance when it comes to sleep is invaluable. Tracking your sleep and getting data with a weable such as an Oura ring or Whoop strap and working with a coach to understand and optimise it is well worth the effort.
2. HORMONES
With more and more endocrine disruptors than ever before, our hormones have never been more off-center. From household products and beauty creams to the food we eat, we’re putting more chemicals in our bodies than ever before. Then, pile on the layers of stress and you’re basically drinking a burnout cocktail that may erupt at any moment.
Hormonally, this is a disaster. Our body struggles to self-regulate. We struggle to cope, to focus, and to achieve what we set out to do. For women, especially, various symptoms arise, such as bloating, PMS, and skin problems. Optimising this layer of health has so much importance when it comes to our energy levels, cognitive abilities, and more.
3. INSIGHTS
You can’t change what you don’t measure. And with new tech coming onto the market all of the time from advanced wearables, continuous blood glucose monitors and devices to help you meditate, tell you whether your burning fats or carbs and at home blood testing and DNA testing, we no longer need to guess when it comes to our health.
Through testing, recording, and data, you can determine exactly where improvements can be made in your life to propel your business and your health forward.
There are also various phone apps to help you out, specifically when it comes to tracking your cycle, diet, training, mood, and more.
4. FUEL
Fuel isn’t just about the food you put in your mouth. This also includes what you feed your mind. Meditation, gratitude, and affirmations play a role here.
Additionally, finding the perfect diet for you and your genetics is crucial to optimise your energy and productivity levels. Through DNA testing, you can gain a ton of info that can help you align your diet with your bio-individual profile.
To help you optimise the way you are Fueling your body and mind, think F.L.O.W
-Food
– Light
– Oxygen
– Water
5. TRAINING
Training is not just about knocking out a gym workout or going for a run. It’s about optimising both the body and the mind. Training your mind through meditation has proven to have so many emotional and mental benefits.
Finding an exercise training regime is also crucial since the body is made to move. Further, more muscle mass means increased mitochondria, which has a direct impact on your energy levels. Make time to maintain and build lean muscle mass. The body and mind benefit from it in so many ways.
Assess, Test, and Measure
I challenge you to start collecting insights for yourself. Where can you make improvements? What areas in S.H.I.F.T. could you focus on? How can you take back control of your life and your business?
It all starts with you and your health. From there, anything is possible. The hardest part is taking that first step.
